Making the Brave Choice: Adoption After Birth

We know you love your baby. Lack of love is not the reason you are considering placing your little child for adoption. Adoption after birth is always an obtion.

Considering adoption for a child you have already welcomed into your life and have been caring for can be so confusing. This is definitely a monumental choice. There can’t help but be a whirlwind of emotions and uncertainties.

We’re here at Heart to Heart Adoptions to talk about your decision. We know you are thinking about your child.

Recent Adoption

Recently, we matched a one-year-old child with a loving family. The adoption is an open adoption and the birth mother receives messages, videos, and pictures almost daily. The birth mother continues to care for her six-year-old child, and both families are committed to fostering a meaningful relationship between the two siblings.

Why Some Mothers Choose Adoption After Birth

We understand there are many reasons why placing your child for adoption now might be the right choice for you:

  • Financial struggles that make it hard to provide the life you want for your child
  • Lack of support from family, friends, or your child’s father
  • Health challenges that make parenting difficult right now
  • Balancing the needs of other children in your home
  • Educational or career goals that you’re working toward
  • Unsafe living situations that concern you for your child’s wellbeing
  • Feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of parenting
  • Mental health concerns that affect your ability to parent in the way you’d like
  • Changes in your relationship status that have created instability in your home
  • Recognizing that another family may provide opportunities you currently cannot

Open Adoption

You will always be your child’s mother. And in an open adoption, you have the right to continue to watch your child grow. You also have the right to communicate with the adoptive parents as well as the child. Often, our families use a computer app called Our Hearts Connect to send messages, videos, and pictures. The degree of openness will be up to you and what you are comfortable with.
