Placing Your Child is Right, Not Seeing the Child is Wrong

If placing your child for adoption seems right,

If never seeing your child again seems wrong.

An open adoption may be what’s right for you.

An open adoption allows birth parents to know and have contact with the adoptive parents as well as the adopted child.

There are always different levels of openness.

–Normally, birth parents take part in selecting the adoptive parents who will raise their children. Some birth mothers want to meet the adoptive parents even before the baby is born.

–After your child is born, you may want weekly or monthly contact. This contact may be in the form of pictures or phone calls, or video calls.

—We have multiple situations where the birth family and adoptive family spend special occasions such as holidays and birthdays together.

–We have other situations where all communication is confidential and devoid of personal and identifying information.

Families communicate in ways that feel comfortable to them.

The type of contact and how often these contacts occur wholly depend on everyone’s needs and choices. Over time situations change.
