Every family’s timeline is different, and factors like your preferences and openness affect how quickly a match happens. Most Heart to Heart families complete their adoption within a year, though some journeys take longer. Your specialist will help you understand what to expect at each stage.
When do I create my family profile?
Your family profile is typically created after your home study is underway or completed. We’ll help you develop a profile that authentically shares your family’s story with expectant parents considering adoption.
Can I choose an open adoption?
Yes. Most adoptions today involve some level of openness. We’ll discuss your preferences and help facilitate an adoption plan that reflects the comfort level of everyone involved.
What happens after I'm matched?
Once you’re matched, you’ll work closely with your adoption specialist to prepare for placement, communicate according to the adoption plan, and navigate the legal steps leading to finalization.
When is an adoption finalized?
Finalization is the court hearing that makes your adoption legally permanent. It typically takes place three to six months after placement, once any required post-placement supervision is complete — the exact timing varies by state.
