Open Adoption Options in Florida

When you wonder if adoption is the answer for you, it’s possible that you are also wondering if you can stay in touch with your baby after adoption. At Heart to Heart Adoptions’ Florida office, we believe you should have choices about your adoption plan, including how much contact you want with your child.

What Is Open Adoption?

Open adoption means you can know how your child is doing as they grow up. Some birth families and adoptive families meet regularly in person. Other families share messages, pictures, and videos.

Jasmine from Panama City explains it well:

“I get pictures of my son at the beach, and almost weekly letters about how he’s doing in school. I send him pictures of me and sometimes videos. We go through an app called Our Hearts Connect. I think when he’s older and we get together, he won’t be meeting a stranger. And I won’t be meeting a stranger. I’m so happy about how this turned out.”

You can choose:

  • Getting pictures and letters
  • Meeting in person at Florida spots like Disney World or local parks
  • Sharing holiday cards and birthday wishes
  • However much contact feels right for you

Can I See My Baby After Adoption?

Yes! With open adoption, you can see your baby after placement. LaKeisha from Tampa shares: “We meet twice a year at Clearwater Beach. My daughter’s adoptive parents send me pictures from Universal Studios and their family trips. They even let me know when she lost her first tooth!”

Can I Choose the Adoptive Parents?

At Heart to Heart Adoptions’ Florida office, you get to pick the family who adopts your baby. You can:

  • Look through family profiles
  • Meet families in person or by video chat
  • Choose a family from Florida or another state
  • Pick a family that matches your values and dreams for your child

Open vs. Closed Adoption: Which Is Right for You?

Every birth mom is different. Some want lots of contact, while others prefer less. Here are your options:

Open Adoption:

  • Regular updates and contact
  • Visits if you want them
  • Your child knows who you are

Semi-Open Adoption:

  • Pictures and letters through the agency
  • No direct contact
  • Your child knows about you

Closed Adoption:

  • Private with no updates
  • Can be opened later if both sides agree
  • Medical information is still shared

Will My Child Know I Placed Them for Adoption?

In open adoption, yes – your child will know their adoption story.

“I love that my daughter knows I chose adoption because I wanted the best for her,” says Monica from Jacksonville. “Her adoptive parents tell her I’m her first mommy who loved her so much I made sure she had the perfect family.”
