How does the adoption process work here?
It starts with one call or text. We know that you might just be trying to gather information and that is fine. You are not committed because of a contact. If you are struggling or are in a dangerous situation, we can start helping you immediately. You will have help building your plan at your own pace.
If you sign consent outside of court, New York law gives you a window afterward to change your mind. That means, no one if forcing you into a quick decision. You get your own free lawyer. New York also lets you set up a contact plan with the adoptive family. After you have decided what you want the plan to say you can have it approved by a judge and unlike many states, in New York state and, yes, in Long Island, that document can be legally enforced. This means you have real protection if you want an open adoption.

Can I stay connected with my child after adoption in Long Island?
