What Makes Miami Different

Miami is one of the most expensive cities in Florida. Rent is high. Many women we talk to in Miami and Hialeah are working hard but still falling behind on bills. Heart to Heart can help cover rent, groceries, and other costs while you decide what is best for you and your baby.

And if you just need a quiet place to think things through, one of our counselors went with a birth mother one day to the neighborhoods just south of Oakland Park Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. They watched an incredible sunrise and talked.  Watching the sun come up costs nothing.

Jodi was working with a young teenager in Miami. The girl’s mother was with the girl every step of the way, but after the placement, the mother and daughter needed some time to grief on their own. So several days after the placement, rather than have a formal counseling session, Jodi and the young birth mother took a trip to the Everglades which reminded both of them as to how special and unusual South Florida really is. It is one of the only places on earth where alligators and crocodiles share the same waters, even though both women admitted they had never actually seen a crocodile themselves.

Questions Women Here Often Ask

Women in Miami often ask us things like: What if my family does not know I am pregnant? Can I still get help if I am undocumented? The answer to all of these is yes. We help women no matter their immigration status, and we can connect you with Spanish-speaking support.

“I was working at a restaurant in Miami Beach and could not keep up with my bills while I was pregnant. Michelle from Heart to Heart helped me with rent and even helped me find a safer, better apartment.”
